EIGHT INTEGRAL PART OF STUDYING Part 2

This is a continuation from where we stopped, you can read that here.

3.      READING:  ok now you finally got me, I guess you’ve been wondering how one can study without reading. Well the truth is reading is an integral part of studying that you just can’t do without. Whatever you are hoping to get, you still will need to read it off the book. Remember when you were trying to understand your spouse, what did you do, you read her body signals, language, touch, smile e.t.c you probably also attached some ideas to her signals, well when you study, you attach some ideas to the signals you are reading from your book or whatsoever you are reading from.
Reading has various forms and manners as well as types, read more about it here.

These are the first four, check out for updates on the next four in my next installment. Thank you.

C    4. CORRELATION: I learnt this part from geology. Correlation ingbeology has to do with trying to tie rock types that are similar in characteristics together even if they are seoarated by large expanse of time, space or distance. So how exactly does the geologist correlate rocks? I am also a geologist so I can give you an insight. When a geologist comes across a rock exposure, he first takes the features he can see,he then tries to see if there is a fit or match with any rocks he has encountered before somewhere else, he does these by looking out for certain structures in hard rocks and fossils especially in soft rocks. Once he can establish a tie, he would match or correlate the two rocks as one body though in separate locations. Ah, hope you still remember jack of all, master of one. Lets bring it home to studying, if during studying I encounter something similar or closely related to a topic, issue or idea I have seen or heard of before, the brain automatically alerts me and I may ruminage for a while and try to see the relationship between the two, once that is settled I have added knowledge and gained a wider scope of understanding, that’s simply studying. Correlation between two knowledge is important when studying because knowledge is always built on past knowledge.

  5. COMPARISM: now we are getting into the core of studying. At this point you are actively, deliberately going beyond just reading, now you are trying to understand, decipher, reflect, comprehend- that’s what it means to study. As knowledge is heaped upon knowledge, when you compare, you are attempting to find the similarities, differences and ties that bind what you may have known before with what you are getting now. Comparison is a necessary part of studying because it is at this point that our passion can surge up. Lets say you knew that 25 divided by 5 equals 5, now you are studying and discover that the 25 is the square of a certain 625, by comparing you may want to solve, prove by breaking down 625 to its smallest divisor, 5 and voila la, you got it, NO one can ever take it from you because you read, compared analysed it.

     6.  MANAGEMENT: this is the brain of studying, the ability to manage inputs. The human brain is such a powerful machine that it consumes around a fifth of what you eat. The brain requires so much to function because it does so much as a function. Imagine having to receive, sort. sieve, analyse, store and give out information on a per seconds basis, that’s hectic work, thank God the brain doesn’t go on strike.
When you study, you are tasking the brain to do some serious managerial exercises. First your brain has to receive ALL that you fed it with (all you read plus what you knew before), then it has to sort out the new ones and old ones apart, plus also sort the good from bad, true from false, then it has to sieve through the memory bank and attach new info after analyzing and running several test, then finally the brain has to make the complete new information ready and handy any time the demand arises. This is the managerial aspect of studying and your brain does the bulk work though you have a part to play. Here are some ways to put your brain in top working conditions.

    7.  APPLICATION/MANIPULATION: a good thief and trickster doesn’t juct come upon a person and does his tricks, he first needs to study his victim to be, so do secret spies and detectives, theu study so that when time comes for application and manipulation its easy. Again at this point the brain power must function. After storing so much, the brain needs to run some check on your data to see its viability for real life situations. This is what makes your knowledge valid and LONG LASTING. Whatever is true remains forever. Application/manipulation test is important when studying not because you really want to verify (that’s for the comparism stage) but because you want to EMBEDD it to your system. You want to make it part of your life, something that is readily available should the time call for it, so you will then try to see, imagine or create a scenario in which your knowledge is put to work. Ever wonder how Thomas Edison got the light bulb, well I would tell you, by application and manipulation. For every failure of experiment (comparism) that he had, he would restart all over again, making some changes (step 1-6) again until the new one works. Once the light bulb worked, he knew how to make the next one. When we apply or manipulate what we know, we make room for the knowledge to remain, remember the truth never changes, it remains forever.
     8.  RETRIEVAL: a successful attempt to study would never be complete if after all has been said and done, that the inputs cannot be outputted. The sole aim of studying is to bring about comprehension leading to defense and presentation at any point in time. What we study becomes a part of us, it sticks with us remains in us and will become who we are. Mohammed Alli studied so much about boxing that he knew boxing so well, became a boxer and was a champion of boxers, same for Charles Darwin, and Jesus Christ (He knew His father God so well that he became an express manifestation and revelation of the divine deity God).
We are what we read, study and apply. Readers are leaders; he who reads doesn’t become bound but is unlimited. Versatile readers can fit into nay situation and flourish, no one starts a business without doing a business study to see if the opportunity is viable or not except the person just likes failure.

There you are, eight things you about studying that must be practiced to improve your study life. If you liked this or found it helpful, kindly recommend it for  a friend by sharing.
Thanks.
